Your Business Transformation in 2021: Build Back Better

1st of a 5-part series for leaders hunting for transformational growth

The Discipline of Transformation

Build Back Better. Really, what does this mean? Is it a thought? Is it an answer? And what does Pivot really mean?

From our work over the last 20 years, we strongly believe that Pivot and Build Back Better is code for transforming your organization to be super relevant to your customers.  We also believe that Transformation is a discipline – it’s not a thought.

Looking at transformation as a discipline increases your odds of success many-fold. There is a huge cost of not transforming your business today to meet the changing needs of your customers. There is also a very big cost of taking 3-4 years to transform your company – it may mean losing a big chunk of your business or even going out of business.

Our Own Business Transformation

Orchestrating transformation is not easy. Having been in the trenches with leaders, the process of transformation can be scary as well as emotionally jarring. I know this because I too had to look at transforming our business in early 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic was emerging. The overall climate for business appeared radically different, almost overnight. Not fun at all. After a big pity party I, like many of you, had to look at my business and figure out how to transform and pivot to be super relevant to our clients. I came to the conclusion that we have spent the last 20 years preparing for this moment.

Then came the realization that we have a library of methodologies and tools we built block by block to help our clients across many industries (B2B, B2C, and Nonprofit) reimagine and transform their businesses. We also have valuable lessons and interactive processes built and perfected to help you engage your leadership team and your broader team in the change process.

For Collaborative Consulting, in these uncertain times, being super relevant means helping our clients lead their transformations with a discipled approach to create successful outcomes.

Let’s get started!

Leadership Sets the Roadmap for Transformation

In the end, orchestrating transformation comes down to leadership and is the responsibility of the CEO and his/her senior team.  Setting and communicating the roadmap for transformation is crucial – it empowers and engages employees at all levels within the organization.

We created a framework for you to think about the key elements of your Transformation. One of the first steps we recommend is building a Journey Map to help you chart out the elements of your transformation. This provides a clear and disciplined approach to help you engage your leadership team and your broader organization. There are many tools and methods that make up our Transform model – this is what we recommend you start with.

Starting Your Transformation Journey

There are many tools and methods that make up our Transform model, but we created a framework for you to think about the key elements of your Transformation Journey. One of the first steps we recommend is building a Journey Map to help you chart out the elements of your transformation. This provides a clear and disciplined approach to help you engage your leadership team and your broader organization.

Journey Map

Business Transformation Journey Map

This tool allows you to work with your team to take stock of where you are and where you want to go. This process helps your team be brutally honest about where they are today and also be bold and aspirational about where they want to go. Download the PDF for free.

If you’d like, my team and I would be happy to hop on a call to review with you and share some helpful tips and recommendations.
